About the Faculty
The faculty of Agriculture, which is in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, was established in 1953. It Started as the Department of Agriculture to provide ad hoc courses in Agriculture to personnel from the Ministry of Agriculture and teaches of Agriculture.
A four - year Diploma programme in Tropical Agriculture was introduced in January 1958 but was updated to a Three - year BSc. Degree programme in 1961 and was later replaced with a Four-year degree programme.
Diploma courses were being run along the degree programme within 1970 and 1997. In 2005, a four - year programme in Post Harvest Technology was introduced.
The Faculty has four departments namely, the Department of Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness and Extension, Department of Animal Science, Department of Horticulture and the Crops and Soil Science Department. Meanwhile, some students in their final year specialise in Agricultural; Mechanization which is being handled bt the department of Agricultural engineering.
In 2009, following the demand of specialized agricultural experts, the faculty introduced four BSc. Degree courses. These are
1. BSc. Agribusiness Management 2. BSc. Agricultural Biotechnology 3. BSc. Meat & Dairy Science and Technology 4. BSc. Landscape Design and Management.
Beside these and other BSc. Programmes, the Faculty also runs come MSc. MPhil and PhD programmes in the various Departments.
